Gerald Arends Presents at EDO Qld Event on Advancing Climate Action
On Wednesday, 24 August 2016, Pegasus Legal Director Gerald Arends was a guest speaker at an event hosted by the Environmental Defenders Office Queensland (EDO Qld).
Gerald joined renewable energy experts Trevor Berrill and Paul Jones (CSA Services) to discuss how Queensland can overcome current barriers to renewable energy development and accelerate its transition to a low-carbon future.
The event responded to the Queensland Government’s discussion paper, Advancing Climate Action in Queensland: Making the Transition to a Low Carbon Future, and aimed to support attendees in preparing their submissions, due 2 September 2016.
At the time, Queensland had no formal climate mitigation laws or targets. The speakers’ presentations were well received and explored diverse strategies for enabling the renewable energy sector to contribute meaningfully to climate action.
Drawing on his international experience across more than 20 countries in the solar industry, Gerald’s presentation examined successful policy frameworks in other markets and identified areas of Queensland law suitable for reform.
